Is this weekend for me?

Most participants are harpists who began their study as adults. They play lever or pedal harp for their own enjoyment, in therapy settings, and/or professionally. Some may have begun their studies as children and have come back to the harp after a long absence. Many participants are beginning to intermediate skill levels. Those who have attended BITM for several years enjoy the guidance of our expert faculty and the more advanced class selections. Regardless of playing level or experience, everyone has the opportunity to meet other harpists, share ideas and experiences, and have a great time.

"I am so appreciative of all you have done to create such an inspiring, instructive, informative and intimate creative learning environment. Thank you so much for having BITM and for all the hard work to make it successful!"

About Beginning in the MIddle

Beginning in the Middle is a weekend seminar designed specifically for adult harp students at all skill levels. It is sponsored by the Virginia Harp Center, a retail harp store with locations in Virginia and New Jersey, and the Atlanta Harp Center in Alpharetta, Georgia. We have gathered a world-class faculty to present a non-stop schedule of workshops, lessons, and concerts to inspire you and help you reach your goals.

What should I bring?

Participation in some classes requires a harp. You will need to bring your harp, bench (if you use one), music stand and tuning key for those classes. All items should be labeled with your name, since many look alike. There are classes offered that do not require you to have a harp but we encourage you to bring your instrument whenever possible to keep your weekend options flexible.

Comfortable and casual clothing is appropriate for all daytime activities with dressier attire optional for evening concerts.

If you sign up to play in a Group Lesson, bring a piece of music that you are working on. You are welcome to record these sessions, however you may not record the faculty portions of the evening concerts.

What should I expect?

Classes and workshops are offered throughout the day with exciting concerts presented in the evenings. You design your weekend from an array of choices that appeal to you! All activities, classes, and concerts are included in your fee.

You will meet harpists who share your views and experiences and others who offer new ideas and opportunities. Any apprehensive feelings you may have as you prepare for the seminar will quickly turn into excitement as you arrive and meet your fellow harpists and our outstanding faculty all in a nurturing environment.

Our faculty is not concerned with your level of ability or previous experience, only that you come with an open mind, a desire to learn, and a willingness to participate.
